Interview with Babsi - 9/4/2004
.

Q: Hello Babsi, how are you doing?
A: "I am back from the US since 1,5 weeks! I spent about 4 days at home with my family and I also had my first golf lesson which I really enjoyed a lot!"

Q: So have you started practicing again and preparation for the clay season?
A: "Yes, of course! I started one week ago practicing with my coach in Salzburg, Austria. Unfortunately the weather was very cold in Austria last week and therefore we could only play on indoor clay courts which is definitely not an ideal preparation for my next tournament in Estoril which starts on Monday."

Q: How is your form then?
A: "Well, it always takes some time for me to get used to clay court again.  The game is different.... you have to be more patient, your footwork is different and tactics as well. So I will have to wait and see how it goes next week in Portugal. But I am looking forward to it and I am happy to start the European outdoor season."

Q: Where you happy with your results from the US tournaments in Indian Wells and Key Biscayne?
A: "My goal was to make 100 points on this trip. In total I have made around 96 and I am happy I achieved it even though I had lost 1st round in Miami. I was very happy with my performance and game in Indian Wells. I have beaten some really good players and have gained a lot of confidence. I felt that my game has improved a lot in the last couple of weeks and I was able to play in a real tournament match what I usually play while I am practicing. Unfortunately I didn't play so well in Key Biscayne since it was really windy there and I don't like that very much!

Q: Do you play doubles in Estoril as well?
A: "Yes, I do - I will team up with Patricia Wartusch from Austria. We have played in the past and had some good successes already. It is also important as we also might team up at our Fed Cup Match against Slovakia in 2 weeks."

Q: According to your tournament calendar you will not play in Vienna this year?
A: "Yes this is true. I have decided to play in Strasbourg this year. I didn't feel very well in Vienna 2003 and I though it would be a good idea to play Strasbourg and try out something new."

Q: But you will definitely play in the Fed Cup match against Slovakia, right?
A: "Yes of course. I am very much looking forward to play the Fed Cup match and to play for my country. We have a very good team and a great atmosphere among the players. I also believe that we have good chances to beat Slovakia!"

Q: How do you celebrate Easter?
A: "I would love to celebrate it with my family and boyfriend but unfortunately I can't as I have to fly to Estoril tomorrow evening."

THANK'S Babsi and all the best in Estoril!
