Barbara Schett continued her strong run at
the Rogers AT&T Cup, adding No. 4 seed Kim Clijsters to her list of upsets. She
defeated the Belgian in two sets of 6-4, 6-4. “I am really happy,” she said.
“All the pressure was on her and I had nothing to loose, so I took my chances.”
Schett came into the match quite confident
after yesterday’s feat. “Every time I go on the court, I know I can beat
anybody, and of course with beating Chanda yesterday I had more confidence.”
Clijsters, tired from the six sets she played
the day before, three in singles and three in doubles, did not have enough time
to recover especially with the heat. “I know if I have to beat Barbara, I have
to play my best tennis and I didn't. I felt a little bit tired, I think, and
maybe not as fresh as I should have been.”
Schett will now meet Daniela Hantuchova. The
two had met earlier this year at Indian Wells, with Hantuchova emerging
victorious and winning the tournament. “She's ahead of me in the rankings and,
basically, I have nothing to lose, which is a good feeling,” the Austrian
quarterfinalist said.
